Luxury Hotels with Great Views of the River and City

Riverside, Bangkok
Bangkok fast ferry on the Chao Phraya River
The Chao Phraya River's fast ferry service is a quick way to move between points of interest with easy transfer to the BTS Skytrain possible at Central Pier.

Bangkok started its life as a village on the banks of the Chao Phraya River and grew ever outwards over the last 200 years to become one of the worlds largest and most famous cities.

Though no longer the city’s prime reason for existing, the broad Chao Phraya is still a busy waterway that serves both to ferry people through the city and to move commercial goods.

With many historic buildings along its banks and with many traditional Thai boats in view, travelling along Bangkok’s mighty river can provide a fascinating glimpse in Thailand’s past.

Bangkok Riverside Dining

Riverside is home to many of Bangkok’s most prominent luxury hotels many of which have multiple restaurants such as the Mandarin Oriental which boasts ten each with its own theme and specialty cuisine.

Some good, generally less expensive restaurants can be found locally outside the hotels and a short journey to Silom will allow even more excellent dining options as will a ferry trip to the Asiatique tourist attraction where all manner of international food is available.

Also accessible by ferry are a variety of river bank restaurants some of which are very stylish and expensive while others are quite reasonably priced.

Many of the luxury hotels at Riverside run their own attractive river shuttles to Central Pier and beyond.
Riverside Nightlife

Chao Phraya night cruises with dining and entertainment are considered a “must” by many visitors so staying in the area means they can be enjoyed without having to travel far.

Locally, the luxury hotels will provide plenty of romantic dining opportunities either right next to the river or with spectacular views from high above.

The Asiatique tourist village also has some restaurants, pubs and bars in which to pass the evening though for more lively entertainment Silom can be reached in just two stops on the Skytrain from Central Pier while the city centre around the Sukhumvhit Rd area is just another 10 minutes ride further on.

Getting Around

Travelling to see many of the main attractions is particularly easy from the Riverside area. Because the Chao Phraya was once Bangkok's central feature, most of the most prestigious buldings and monuments were built near its banks. By using the river ferry system visitors can easily get to popular sights such as the Grand Palace, Wat Arun and Chinatown.

Travelling further afield is also quite convenient and simply requires a short ferry or hotel shuttle boat trip to Central Pier where the Skytrain has frequent departures until around midnight.
