Bangkok's 21st Century Shopping Utopia

Centralworld Shopping mall in Bangkok
Fun sculture in Siam Square
The malls are connected by walkways and plazas perfect for resting during shopping sprees.

The Siam area is Bankok’s modern shopping paradise right in the centre of the city. Its interconnected mega malls dominate the scenery giving it a very 21st century appearance and provide countless retail opportunites including everything from designer goods and exotic supercars to large supermarkets full of Thai people doing their weekly shopping.

Staying in one of the area’s hotels will not only give access to the myriad of shops but also a great array of entertainment while its central location on the Skytrain line make it a great base from which to explore the rest of Bangkok.

Siam Square Dining

The variety of food outlets throughout the Siam shopping malls is probably unmatched anywhere else in Thailand. Most of the famous restaurant chains are visible as are all of the fast food giants though possibly popular are the many foodcourts which combine reasonably priced Thai dishes served fast. Being in the city centre also ensures a wide choice of restaurants just a little further afield and especially towards Sukhumvhit Road where everything from pubs selling basic western fare to elegant rooftop dining establishments can be found.

Siam Square Nightlife

Siam Square night time venues consists mainly of upmarket bars and restaurants found within the area’s luxury hotels and is therefore not one of Bangkok’s nightlife hot spots. However, it is located close to the Sukhumvhit Road area which contains many bars and clubs as well as two of the city’s red light districts which, while not appealing to all, are undeniably lively.

Getting Around

The roads are particularly congested around Siam Square so its one of the worst places to rely on taxi or tuk tuk transport to travel around. However, it is the changeover point for the two Skytrain lines and being located roughly in the middle of both makes it strategically well postioned for travelling to other parts of town.
